Established on April 28, 2021, the Edward Brune Memorial Scholarship Fund commemorates the enduring legacy of Mr. Edward Brune. A life-long advocate for personal and community development, Mr. Brune utilized tennis as a transformative vehicle to enrich the lives of those around him. As the founder and general manager of the Indianapolis Racquet Club, he melded his passion for tennis with an unwavering commitment to teaching the sport to thousand of individuals across all age groups.

The Fund aims to perpetuate Ed’s ideals by annually awarding scholarships to young individuals in Indiana who embody his love for tennis, his dedication to perpetual self-improvement, and above all, his intrinsic respect for fellow human beings.

Structured as a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity, the Fund welcomes contributions to further enrich the lives of Indiana’s youth through the medium of tennis.

Recipients

2026

Annie Mann

  • Annie is a 16-year-old student at Carmel High School who recently completed her sophomore year. A dedicated tennis player since childhood, Annie has been part of the Indianapolis Racquet Club community since she was five years old. This past season, she competed at No. 3 singles for Carmel High School, where she enjoyed being part of an exceptional team and learning from outstanding coaches.

Payton Paramoure

  • Payton is a 15-year-old student at Westfield High School who will begin his sophomore year this fall. A strong student with a GPA above 4.0, Payton is dedicated to excellence both in the classroom and on the tennis court. This past season, he played No. 1 doubles for Westfield and helped lead the Shamrocks to the first sectional championship in school history.

2024

Aashil Hassija

  • Aashil is a passionate ten-year-old student from Hamilton Southeastern Elementary, enrolled in an advanced academic program. He shows a strong enthusiasm for mathematics and has actively participated in and excelled in numerous state-level competitions, including the Science Bowl, Spell Bowl, and Math Bowl. Inspired by Novak Djokovic, Aashil dreams of taking his favorite sport, tennis, to the level of one day winning Wimbledon.

2023

Samaya Smith

  • Samaya attended Warren Central High School. While there, she became the first Black girls’ tennis individual state champion from Indianapolis and also became Indiana’s #1 ranked under 18 tennis player in 2025. Samaya is not only an accomplished athlete but also excels in her academics. She plans on attending the University of Louisville in the fall of 2026.

2022

Isabel (Issy) May

  • Issy May was the first recipient of the scholarship which was awarded on October 1, 2022. She attended Lawrence North High School and was awarded a scholarship to attend Seton Hall University in the fall of 2024 to play Division 1 tennis.
